About Us ~ Parish Ministries

Many ministries are performed by the parish and individuals at St. Andrew's.

Some of these are listed below:

Acolytes - Acolytes include young women and men from 4th grade through high school who play a critical role in assisting during the service.  St. Andrew's Acolytes are well-known in the diocese as having a high level of skill and commitment.  Basic training is provided twice per year, and an advanced acolyte workshop takes place in the Spring.  Acolytes meet briefly the first Sunday of the month after the 10:00 service.  A highlight of the Acolyte year in 2008 was a four-day trip to the National Acolyte Festival at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC.  Those interested in learning more about becoming an Acolyte should contact The Rev. Lori Mills-Curan.

Adult Christian Education - An ad hoc education committee oversees adult programming for each Sunday, and additional special learning events such as our Wednesday evening Lenten education series.  The Sunday adult education program classes on Sundays begin at 9:00 am and childcare is available for parents' convenience beginning at 8:50 am.
Altar Guild - The Altar Guild takes care of the liturgical vessels and linens, and prepares the sanctuary for all services.  Though the Guild traditionally consists of women, everyone is welcome to serve.

Choir - The adult choir meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. from September to June, and sings an anthem at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service.  Additionally, the choir sings at Holy Day services, such as Ash Wednesday, Easter Eve, and Christmas Eve.  During the summer, the Sunday service music is offered by various individuals or groups from the choir and parish, both vocal and instrumental.  Those interested in joining the choir should contact the Director of Music, Jim Ferguson.

Christian Education - The Christian Education Ministry oversees the programs developed for children, which are offered at 9:00 a.m.  Parents interested in church school or youth ministry may contact the Director of Religious Education, The Rev. Lori Mills-Curran.
Fellowship - The Fellowship Ministry coordinates the Coffee Hour following the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service, as well as special occasions, such as Baptisms and Confirmations.  The Fellowship Ministry also plays a large role in the production of our annual calendar of intergenerational events, including Jesus' Birthday Party on Christmas Eve, an Epiphany International Pot Luck and Folk Dance, our lively Shrove Tuesday Mardi Gras Party, and various other fun educational activities throughout the church year.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM) - Licensed Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) serve at the altar as Chalice Bearers.  Those who choose are also trained to bring communion to the house-bound, and do so on a rotating basis.  Communion is delivered to two shut-ins each Sunday.  Those interested in becoming a Lay Eucharistic Minister should contact The Rev. Julie Carson.

Lectors - Lectors read the lessons during the Sunday worship services on a rotating basis.  Those interested in becoming a Lector should contact The Rev. Julie Carson.

Middle School Youth Group - This new group for 6th to 8th graders meets Sunday at 9:00 am in their new personally-decorated lounge.  Middle schoolers follow the highly-praised Journey to Adulthood program's Rite 13 curriculum (more information can be found at www.leaderresources.org).  Fun activities this year are anticipated to include a St. Nicholas Day play, a laser tag outing, a snow day and a movie night, for starters!

New Member Ministry - Our New Member Ministry specifically addresses the needs and care of our newcomers.  They coordinate greeters for the 10:00 a.m. Sunday services, as well as individuals to deliver bread and a welcoming note to those who complete a newcomer card.  In addition, newcomers are invited to special dinners at the Rector's home to introduce them to the parish community.

Outreach - The Outreach Ministry meets monthly from September to June.  Outreach is involved in many ongoing projects and coordinates donations to area groups.  In Framingham, we serve dinner once a month for the Miracle Soup Kitchen at Salvation Army, collect non-perishable foods for the food pantry at St. Tarcisius Church, sing at a local nursing home, and knit for the less fortunate!  We hold collections of material goods several times a year (for example, school supplies and books for Biloxi, and socks for the homeless) and we contribute to national and international charities.

Stewardship - The Stewardship Ministry meets monthly from September to June and provides year-long education about many kinds of stewardship.  In addition to implementing the annual Stewardship Campaign, the ministry is making plans for education in the parish about estate planning, i.e. making wills, setting up trusts and leaving bequests.

Ushers - The Ushers assist the congregation at all services.

baptism3aDM2.jpg (77632 bytes) Worship - The Worship Ministry meets four (4) times per year and coordinates all aspects of the worship life at St. Andrew's, including music, liturgy, and worship schedule.
youthgroup2.jpg (16109 bytes) Senior High Youth Group - This large and well-established group meets weekly at 9:00 am in their own lounge.  Senior High youth work with their mentors and clergy staff to take more responsibility for their own programming, recently producing a four-week survey course on various Christian traditions.  Each year, these youth plan and produce a youth Eucharist, with student preachers and musicians.  This group engages seriously with outreach, annually participating in the Walk for Hunger and hosting a Hunger Banquet for the parish.
